Young adult literature is truly at a high point right now with the cult following of Twilight and the others in the trilogy. And, I like to read some YAL occassionally so I can give some suggestions to students... The Game was an interesting, albeit, short read.
The gist of the story is that another layer of the world exists and only certain individuals--mythological creatures-- have access to the mythosphere. OK, I have to admit that I like the name of this otherworld.
What an idea. I could compare to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I won't be tedious because the stories share similarities, but Lewis would probably not agree with the punishments doled out over illicit marriages, etc. that occur in The Game. It's tame enough. And one should know that I could care less how raunchy it would get. Doesn't seem to affect me a whole lot.
It does remind me of Dungeons and Dragons a little. Yes, I am from that era, but not a player. The characters play a game that involves going into the mythosphere to accomplish small tasks.
Would I reread the story? No... it was enjoyable for the hour or so it took to read, but not something that I'm going to continue to write about beyond right now!
